What's involved?

  • Training: The team practices multiple times a week, often for many hours. They work on perfecting their technique, learning new routines, and building strength and coordination.

  • Choreography: Each routine is carefully planned out by a choreographer. It includes specific dance moves, formations, and music. Teams may perform different styles such as jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, tap, or lyrical.

  • Competitions: Throughout the year, the team travels to dance competitions, which are events where many teams come to perform in front of a panel of judges. These judges score each performance based on things like timing, skill, expression, creativity, and teamwork.

  • Teamwork: Being on a competition team means dancers must work closely with others, match timing, and support each other. Everyone needs to perform in sync to make the routine look polished and professional.

  • Commitment: It takes a lot of time, effort, and dedication. Team members usually have to attend regular practices, take extra technique classes, and participate in rehearsals before competitions.
